I absolutely love making these talisman necklaces.  It's always quite a journey and I never know just how they will turn out.  This one is a great example of that: I started out thinking it would just have a few, minimalistic amulets but it turned out to be quite a party!   It ended up having twelve different elements hanging from a substantial fused fine silver ring.  This ring looks wonderfully primitive with its hammered stone texture, and the combination of charms evokes a mysterious tribal artifact from a remote desert culture.   At one point in its creation I thought it was complete, yet it still seemed to need something, and the idea of adding beaded fringe came to me.  I love the way it looks!  It adds a very rich and satisfying textural dimension to the piece.  For all that, it really isn't very heavy, since the charms are all small and lightweight.

Each charm is attached with hammered sterling silver wire, except the beaded fringe which is on nylon and one attached with bronze wire.  You can see them all spread out in the last photo.  From left to right they are:

my own handmade bronze clay charm,

Baja shellbed fossil bead by Gary Wilson,

fine silver metal clay charm I impressed in raw form on a weathered sage branch at Taos Gorge,

branched seed bead fringe,

fossil walrus ivory from St. Lawrence Island, Alaska,

antique silver dove's foot amulet from Morocco,

Diente de Leon seedpod from South America,

coyote bone,

corkscrew seed bead fringe,

vintage British West Africa 1/10 penny,

ceramic spike by Petra Carpeau,

and a fossil seal or walrus tooth from St. Lawrence Island.

The strand is a combination of Thai Hill Tribe silver (very close to pure fine silver) seed beads, and African trade brass, strung on 49 strand professional grade Beadalon beading wire.

You will love this piece!

SIZE:  The chatelaine pendant is 5" or 127mm long.  The necklace with pendant measures 20 3/4" or 53cm from the back of your neck to the end of the pendant when worn.

CARE:   Take care with this as the beaded fringe and the ceramic pendant are more fragile than metal charms.  To clean, rinse in cool water and gently blot dry.

PRESENTATION: The Shapes of Memory will come to you beautifully giftwrapped.  See the shop policies below for details.
