These are colors I dream of, colors that nourish me in the wild places of the desert.  When I wander through landscapes that are sacred to me, these hues are words of comfort and homecoming spoken by the earth.  All of the beads and elements in this talisman necklace were chosen primarily for their colors.  It's a rich mix and the elements are diverse.  Their origins are from around the world and span ages of time, brought together in a synergy that grounds and nourishes the soul.

On a triangle of hammered and wrapped bronze, I have arranged a handful of treasures, all of which move and turn freely on the wire.  They include a fossil walrus ivory artifact, a fragment of an ancient awl excavated from St. Lawrence Island, Alaska; a fossil sand dollar and fish vertebra, and a vintage coin from British West Africa with gorgeous patina.  Two handmade beads, one of encrusted glass, the other a disc of stoneware, are here as well.  And there are five of my own handmade elements, made from fine silver, bronze and copper metal clays.  These all bear natural impressions of saguaro cactus skeleton, desert stone, an ancient metate, and shell.

The strand of beads has such a variety that I will only list some here, but all of them will be named in your handwritten description.  Czech glass beads provide the foundation.  There are so many stunningly beautiful beads coming from there these days, and I am especially fond of those with the mottled iridescent Picasso finish.  Many of them are here, in a variety of shapes and sizes.  Lighting up one side is a soft golden Ethiopian precious opal that flashes with colored fire.  There are also fossil ivory beads and tiny, agatized  fossil turitella shells...my own handmade polymer beads with desert sand and plants...more metal clay elements also made by me...Pre-Columbian shell disc beads... ethnographic Igbo Bugs, Mali clay, and Yoruba brass from Africa...earthy brown Baltic amber and pyrite nuggets.  And more...

On the back, a counterweight holding metal elements and a chunk of caramel chert from the Great Lakes region balances the weight of the pendant and makes the necklace a delight to wear.

This is a lovely, organic and rich connection to desert color and the desert earth...beautiful over an olive green sweater, or any favorite earthy or neutral tone.

SIZE:  The talisman pendant measures 5 1/4" x 1 3/4" x 1", or 133mm x 44mm x 25mm.  The necklace with pendant measures 19 1/2" or 50cm from the back of your neck to the end of the pendant when worn, and the counterweight is 1 3/4" or 44mm long.

CARE:   To clean, rinse in cool water and gently blot dry with a soft towel.
