:: Fossil Record ::

A chunky, primitive charm bracelet made from a wild fusion of interlocked links, this is the latest addition to the Desert Primitive tribe.  This one is a bit longer than its predecessors, but if you would like to have it shortened, one or more links can be removed from the end; see the SIZE info below.

The main body of the bracelet consists of oversized fused fine silver links, many of which are quite massive: 8 through 12 gauge round fine silver wire was used for each one.  I begin these bracelets in the middle and work outward from there, and never know where the journey will take me until I arrive at the ends.  Each link was hammered on desert rock and then sanded before they were oxidized them to an rich patina. I also included two handmade bronze metal clay elements: a large disc, which was impressed with Moroccan blue obsidian, and a slender ring which was impressed with a crinoid fossil.  Each of these metal clay elements was handmade by me, kiln fired, and hand finished.  As a final touch I rubbed rust, red sandalwood and rich gold Gilders Paste into the crevices of the metal clay elements and some of the fine silver links as well, to help unify the colors; this is a highly durable wax medium and I sometimes love to add it into my metalwork.

I kept the charms on this one a little lighter than on previous bracelets since these seem to be easier to wear.  They include a fine silver charm impressed with a trilobite fossil and a segment of fossil crinoid (a primordial sea creature similar to an anemone).  A bead made from fossil stegodon bone from Java is next to these; stegodons were relatives of the mastodon and mammoth.  On the next link is a bronze charm that I impressed on a favorite moldavite tektite, with another crinoid fossil above it.  All of the links are made from hammered and oxidized sterling silver.  I designed the bracelet so the charms hang below the wrist when it is worn, helping it to stay closed and the large central elements to stay oriented on top of your wrist.

This is a bold, substantial, but very comfortable bracelet to wear. It looks and feels ancient, already broken in, an artifact in its own right. The sense of age and natural texture give it the feeling of something that has emerged by natural process out the earth, and yet it speaks of the desert intimately.

SIZE:  9 1/2" or 24cm long, when fastened.  The charms hang 2" or 52mm below the bracelet.

CARE:  This is a very durable piece that will only improve with age.  The patina will deepen over time.  Wash with water only; it's ok to scrub it a bit with a kitchen pad.  I do not recommend soap, or any polishing compound or cloth, as this may affect the hue of the Gilders Paste, or even remove some of it.

PRESENTATION: This bracelet will come to you beautifully giftwrapped.  See the shop policies below for details.
