Timeless simplicity, a structural torc necklace of silver and ivory that is primal and raw, while at the same time very contemporary.  I have already given it a form-fitting curve, and the silver torc can be further molded to make a perfect fit around your neck.  While it may look rough, it has been carefully sanded and is actually very comfortable to wear.

These pieces are the essential core of my Desert Primitive style: wild and rugged, evoking sun and stone and the uncompromising beauty and strength of the drylands, yet also elegant and otherworldly.  The centerpiece is a large fossil ivory fragment dug from old village sites on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska.  The native Yupik, who own their island, have made fossil ivory a significant part of their livelihood and strictly control how and where it is done.  While it is called "fossil" ivory to distinguish it from modern illegal ivory, this material ranges anywhere from hundreds to thousands of years old.  As it ages it takes on a beautiful patina which grows deeper with time.  Ivory was very important to the ancestral people of St. Lawrence Island and was used for all kinds of tools, weapons, ceremonial objects and adornments.  When something broke, it was reshaped into something else, and the ivory continued to be used as long as possible.  I like the broken fragments the best.  This raw piece has been tumble polished to bring up a soft shine and remove all rough edges.

The silver wire was hammered on desert stone, lightly oxidized and sanded to a satiny finish; again, no rough spots.  The torc is rigid with a bit of give so it can be opened and closed with the simple hook in back.

SIZE:  5 3/4" wide x 6 1/2" long--again, this is adjustable.  The ivory is 3 3/8" x 1' x 1/2".

CARE:  Wash this in cool water.  A little mild soap is fine but do not scrub.  Buff dry with a soft towel or cloth.  The silver can be further brightened with a polishing cloth if desired.

PRESENTATION:  This necklace will come to you beautifully giftwrapped.  See my shop policies below for details.
