A striking assemblage of fossils comes together in this latest talisman pendant, blended with a very unorthodox combination of primitive, ancient and gemstone beads.  This beautiful necklace is like Earth's embrace, warm and grounding and strong.

The talismans are all fossil-related.  Two are from St. Lawrence Island, Alaska: a beautifully colored, polished piece of fossil ivory that makes a wonderful touchstone, and a tooth--seal or walrus--that shows the dark patina of great age.  These pieces are dug from ancient middens on the island by the native Yupik people.  A large chunk of truly raw Baltic amber is the focal point, though.   I purchased this piece with the intention to polish it by hand, but found that I liked the raw surfaces so much I left most of them intact.  The underside, which is not seen when worn, is the part that is polished!  This was done by hand, and I was surprised to discover that beneath the outer skin the amber was not deep gold like on the side, but a rare shade of bone white glazed with lemon.  It feels wonderful and makes an excellent touchstone in its own right, as amber is warming and calms scattered energy.   The fourth talisman is a little fine silver amulet, molded from one of my own fossil trilobites.  I had made this piece to be a pendant in its own right, but it works perfectly here; it is very solid and dimensional.

Everything is attached to a heavy fused fine silver ring, hammered on desert rock with links of hammered sterling silver--one with ancient beads--or leather.  The fossil ivory is on a strip of brain tanned elk hide with a beaded edging and nettle cordage wraps.

The bead strand includes some lovely things:  Ancient quartz and agate beads from Africa and Asia, Precolumbian shell from Colombia, ancient Bactrian glass, yellow sapphire, agatized fossil turitella and brachiopod, picture and wood jasper, antique Burma silver, myrrh tears, Botswana agate, Arizona petrified wood, Ethiopian precious opal, Botswana agate, handmade clay, and more.  Two of my own handmade fine silver elements interrupt the strand: a hammered ring and a disc impressed with New Mexico petrified wood that was found on a hike one day.

I think you will find this necklace is not as heavy as it looks.  The amber and fossil ivory are very lightweight--white amber weighs next to nothing.

SIZE:  The pendant measures 5 1/2", or 14cm, in length.  The necklace with pendant measures 22 1/4", or 57cm, from the back of your neck to the end of the pendant when worn.

CARE:   Take care with these ancient beads and artifacts, and don't handle the piece roughly.  To clean, rinse briefly in cool water and gently blot dry, or simply wipe very gently with a soft, damp cloth.

PRESENTATION: Primitiva will come to you beautifully giftwrapped.  See my shop policies below for details.
