This necklace is a beautiful evocation of raw desert energy.
:: Sun Temple and Sun's Path Redux ::
I have this beautiful new handwoven cairn necklace for you today, an elemental piece straight from the center of the desert Dreaming. Also, you’ll see that I’ve relisted the Sun’s Path talisman necklace with a newly designed cord. The original with picture jasper heishe just didn’t work and so I lightened it with some charming and very rich little Czech glass spacers, trading the heishe out for picture jasper rondelles.
In addition, I’ve relisted the ceremonial forked wand, a truly lovely autumn piece. This light, feminine prayer wand is made with handmade pipestone beads and deep golden Baltic amber beads, all on a stick of juniper from my own land. The wood is so softly finished it feels like silk.

I am having a storewide sale both in this shop and my Etsy shop, Desert Talismans, to celebrate the arrival of Autumn and cooler weather! Starting here TODAY at 11:45 am (why that time is anyone’s guess, but that’s what Squarespace decided…) EVERYTHING WILL BE 30% OFF THROUGH THE END OF SEPTEMBER. Now is the time to go for those talismans that have been calling you for so long.
This fall I am participating in the Placitas Holiday Sale and expect to be selling a number of pieces there, so if you are counting on something, I recommend that you do not wait. And if you are in the area, be sure to come on up to Anasazi Fields Winery and see me! This is a terrific juried show which draws many people from far and wide.
I am also being called to devote more of my time to painting and drawing and will be listing new pieces in the shops as they come available. Creating prints and print sales are also a possibility being researched.
Finally, I am developing workshops on various spiritual subjects, another long-neglected area that is demanding attention. So there are many exciting new things in the works! Stay tuned for more details and enjoy the sale!
Blessings,
Dawn

:: Malas! ::
Just to let you know, I am spending this week creating new malas, which are being listed in my Etsy shop, Desert Talismans. It was a perfect storm of circumstance: my son recently adopted a kitty we found wandering our coyote-, bobcat- and owl-populated neighborhood. He named her Freyja, took her to his new home way over on the West Mesa, but has now had to leave for two weeks to go help his dad (my first ex) finish packing (he was the one who bought the house) and then drive with him out here. Meanwhile my other ex (second ex...it's a weird, extended family we have, because we all get along as long as we don't have to live together) would ordinarily be able to have her stay with him, but he's been called away on a weeklong business trip. So I'm left holding the bag. With the cat.
If you wonder why I seek tranquility in my work, look no further.
Which is why I'm making malas...I'm spending the afternoons over there with Freyja to keep her company in the large empty house, and malas are the most easily portable work I can do. So that's what I'm making! They double as gorgeous necklaces without looking too obviously mala-ish and they have solid, quality construction designed to withstand daily use. Don't pass these lovelies by!
:: A Raw Amber Talisman ::
Hello everyone! I have been hard at work on a large mixed media drawing this week, but have managed to do this necklace as well. The amber is just incredible and these unworked pieces are hard to come by. I will be back at work on new talismans in the coming week.
